Twitch now replaces stream with still image if ad blocker detected
It all started in September when Twitch introduced new mid-roll ads, and soon after the infamous «unblockable» ads started to appear.
Nonetheless, Twitch users managed to find solutions for these new measures, and now even these supposedly unblockable ads can be blocked with regular ad blockers.
Still, Twitch is not giving up on their advertising revenue, and they are actively working on new ways to get rid of ad blockers.
In November, they started restricting ad blockers to lower stream resolutions, and now they are introducing new still images that will replace the stream when you are watching it with an ad blocker.
Viewers are already calling it «the purple screen of death»(Picture: Twitch)
«If you are seeing this and you’re already on twitch.tv, please review your third-party tools,» the message reads. «Most likely, there is an ad blocker or script running on your browser making it look like you are watching from another site. As we update our service, this third party tool can affect Twitch’s performance.»
Some Twitch users are reporting that the image shows up only when normally there would be an ad running, while others say that the image appears randomly and quite often, and it will stay for around
15 seconds before it disappears.
How to remove Twitch ad blocker message?
The message will appear either when you are using ad blockers or when you are using scripts that will allow you to watch Twitch through other websites.
Currently, there is no clear workaround for this.
Some users are reporting that TTV adEraser might do the trick, but others are saying that it doesn’t help them and that the message still appears even after they have installed iTTV adEraser.
Other users are recommending Streamlink and Streamlink-GUI as a great solution for this, but those have some other issues, like stream dropouts and desynchronization.
Душный Твитч.

Ладно там стримеров душат, вообще плевать если честно, но че работяг трогать то, совсем сдурели что ли? Стримеры никуда не денутся, а я просто удалю закладку с твичом и все попрощались.
Hello, if you are seeing this message and are not already on Twitch.tv.

Anybody else been just dealing with the purple Twitch message? Or has everyone just given up and started watching ads?
Does anyone have any scripts or tools that can block the purple message?
For me, I have started bouncing around to different channels to avoid it but I found I need to be away from a channel for about an hour to have it reset. Otherwise, it comes about every 10 minutes. The alternate Twitch player used to block them but only hides them right now and it still disruptive. Some streamers know that most people cannot block ads anymore and have started spamming them throughout their streams.
Or should I just give up?

Get rid of the purple screen
I commonly get these stupid purple screens saying that I should disable any adblockers and such in the middle of streams, sometimes multiple in the same stream only 10-15 minutes apart. Each one lasts for SEVERAL minutes, which makes watching streams much more uncomfortable because im missing a lot of content and having to listen and watch nothing. Are these supposed to be midroll ads despite the fact that you guys got rid of them??

Seriously, do you really can’t run ads on embedded twitch also?
It’s that difficoult to run the same exact ads that you run on twitch.tv on other sites too with your own embed code that YOU have coded and give to all of us?
This needs to be removed. It does more harm to the creators than it does good for the business.
This is really sad. This harms the Twitch streamer not anyone else. If you want to use the excuse. ‘My Ad Revenue’ then add ads back to the embed.
Seriously, you’ve implemented an obtrusive, unskippable purple screen that RUINS the Twitch ‘experience’ and if that wasn’t bad enough you increased the frequency AND the duration from 15 seconds every 15 minutes to 30 seconds every 10 minutes.
Frankly this is nothing but greed, capitalising on ad revenue (as if you need it, you’re owned by AMAZON, one of the biggest companies in the world!) but noooo, that’s not enough, you want MORE!
Nobody wants to use twitch if even when they’re adblocker is paused they’re still faced with a huge purple screen. I personally have even stopped streaming BECAUSE of the purple screen. Why should I bother streaming when people have to contend with this bullsh*t.
Now I know you guys aren’t stupid, undo your mistakes. Find an alternative way that isn’t so annoying. If you don’t, you’re gonna see your viewers/streamers migrate to another platform because this is ridiculous.
Not only is your purple screen not functioning properly, because it often plays multiple times in a row (turning a supposed 30 interruption into a 90 or 120 second one), but it’s absolutely moronic in design. NOBODY wants their broadcast interrupted, it’s completely backwards.
On multi twitch, I’m watching two streamers, one of which I’m subbed to, the other I’m not, so it seems the site thinks I’m using an ad blocker on the unsubbed stream and shows me a purple screen, but I am not. Please fix.
I aslo cleared addblocker for twitch but i still get the idiot purple screen every 10 minutes for like 2 miinutes. Stop the **** twitch and fix your ****
How can this message show up even in a browser without any extension whatsoever?
Same here. Adblocker is paused on the entirety of the Twitch.tv domain, still getting the purple screen every few minutes. I’m happy to support Twitch with ads but want to protect myself where browsing elsewhere.
My adblock and VPN are disabled. why am I still getting the purple screen? This is ridiculous! You’ll lose more money from users leaving than from whatever ad money you are trying to get. I will happily watch ads, but y’all aren’t even allowing that!
I can’t watch Twitch in any browser, forcing me to use your app if I want to be able to even watch a stream. If this was some ploy to drive people to your app that is deplorable. You could at least provide us with information like what third party site our traffic is being routed through so we could figure out what is doing the routing.
I have disabled AdBlock for Twitch and restarted my browser multiple times, I’m not going to uninstall my AdBlock because Twitch isn’t the only website I visit.
I am now unable to watch a Twitch channel I am not subscribed to. I get a purple screen for 60 seconds frequently enough that it blocks my ability to watch. FYI my adblocker has been turned off for Twitch for years so that I am able to support streamers and Twitch. I can’t even watch the ads to provide revenue, all I see is the purple screen message. I should not be punished just for having one installed.
Fix your programing, your greed is now punishing people who actually try to give you ad revenue. I’m really starting to feel resentful towards your platform, the greedy decision making, as well as, the extremely poor execution of your updates/choices.
With Adblock paused I should not be getting the purple message every 10 minutes, sitting through 4-5 minutes of absolutely nothing.
I can’t uninstall Adblock on my device. My Adblock never even blocked advertisements before so please fix this new feature as it is making it impossible to watch anything on Twitch.
So, I’ve been seeing this since yesterday, it’s very anooyin, ADblocker is NEVER activated on twitch.tv and I WILL NOT unistall it, you can’t force me if I don’t use it on you, this is ridicule, if this S*** continue I will move to youtube or facebook.
Hi! I have the same issue. All the sudden it started popping up (never had a problem before) and I’m watching on twitch.tv with adblock off.
Exactly the same issue, I’m seriously considering not watching streams anymore over this incredibly annoying «feature» that has been added to the site. Ad-block paused, watching through Twitch TV, even turned off Better Twitch TV.
I cannot watch streams for more than a few minutes before they get stuck on purple ad screen, sometimes permanently (repeats 30 sec countdown forever). My insight is to fix this.
Oh, hi!
Didn’t see you there, that’s because there’s a purple message box covering the entire stream. It says that 3rd party browser extensions can decrease the quality of the stream-viewing experience. But given that the stream was just fine running at 1080p 60 fps and the only issue i’ve had is that box blocking the view (and muting the sound) for 30 seconds, i’d call this a big Kappa. Here’s something else fun, whenever the timer reaches 0 for the 1st time, it resets. Gee I sure am glad that those «technical issues» caused by browser addons are now gone with a small price of 1 whole minute of being unable to watch the stream few times every hour. It even appears after dissabling both adblocks i’m using, you guys must be serious about your users getting that message. After all, it’s not like people with actual technical problems would seek out help on their own. No, its best to ruin the fun everyone. Or is the true content that you are worried about, the stuff that those extensions got rid of for us? We better hear about an analyst not wanting to go to Yemen no matter at what point of the stream it might pop up. So Twitch, if you’re sincere and that message, stop blocking the steams with that box, and let us, your viewers enjoy what we’ve enjoyed here for years.
