After updating one of my smart phones from Android Kitkat to Android Lollipop, I found myself in a very strange situation when I first rebooted the phone. It was asking me to “type password to decrypt storage” and was not letting skip this step. I was both baffled and surprised at seeing this as I had never set any sort of password on that smart phone. I tried entering some of the usual passwords that I use, thinking that perhaps I had set a password and then forgot. I even called the service center for the mobile phone manufacturer but ended up wasting more than 30 minutes in just waiting.
After all this struggle and hassle, I finally figured out a way to take care of this annoying problem. Apparently the new version of Lollipop was trying to use the user storage from the older Kitkat version and was asking for a password after failing to access it. So the only solution is to wipe the user data from your Android storage.
In order to wipe the user data or factory reset the phone, you will have to reboot into recovery and then perform the factory reset. Here is how:
Conclusion: When upgrading to a newer version of Android OS, you might encounter encrypted or corrupt storage error in your smart phone. This error can easily be fixed by complete factory reset of the device.

Всем привет. Предыстроия ТА неизвестна. При включении выдает: «type password to decrypt storage». SeTool не шьется. Флеш впала в ReadOnly?
Trim area читается, Indentify проходит.
просто сдохла, вот и не шьется.
хотя, может я и не прав, однако я пробовал на c2105 закриптовать диск и прошить, проблем не было.

надо скопировать бут и трим ( первые 8 мегабайт вполне достаточно ) с «убитой» eMMC
Добрый день, столкнулся с такой же проблемой, но с родной emmc считать ничего не получается. У кого есть поделитесь дампом.
от другого ТА не подойдет, только с вашей еммс.
считать с нулевого сектора убитой eMMC первые 8 мегабайт, можно для уверенности взять первые 32 мега
записать их с нулевого сектора в новую eMMC
впаять новую eMMC
прошить телефон setool2g или любым иным s1 флешером.

Hi guys,
I know that there was atleast 3 other posts about this issue, and yes I have gone through/ tried all of the mentioned methods to rejig my tablet. Here’s some background into what has happened:
The tablet was rooted/unlocked although I can’t recall whether I installed a custom recovery or not. The troubles began notably after the 4.2.2 update was pushed to the tablet.
I woke up in the morning and turned on the tablet (I turn if off religiously) to be greeted by a screen which reads:
«Type Password to Decrypt Storage.» Needless to say, I’ve tried any/all possible passwords this could’ve been, but I myself had not ever set this password on the tablet.

I don’t have an answer for you, but if it happened to me and a custom recovery could be booted, I would be inclined to use that to see if /system, /data, and /cache can be mounted.

I believe that this screen has to do with whatever is being booted (it doesnt make sense for the bootloader to come into play after the ‘X’ splashscreen).
Also, I am unsure as to how to answer your question about whether it prevents booting of a custom recovery- I have only tried to revert to stock this whole time; if you would like I could try flashing (or booting from) a custom recovery, and try to mount the file system.
To answer your last question, although it seems I can ‘lock and unlock’ at will, the locking mechanism doesnt seem to be doing anything, partly because the ‘locked’ symbol still shows up at the black ‘Google’ screen, and also because if I try ‘Fastboot oem unlock’ it tells me that the device is already unlocked (although I ran the ‘fastboot oem lock’ command prior to that).

[EDIT]: I was able to use the Nexus root toolkit to boot into a custom recovery (TWRP), and the first thing that shows up is a prompt to decrypt storage (which I can cancel out of.)
I tried wiping internal storage/ factory reset- both of which fails at ‘Updating partition details’. In the advanced menu I have the ability to use file manager to look at the files inside the Nexus, but I haven’t tried moving anything around or such (because there is none of my files left in the storage.) When I try to mount my storage, the only option I have is to ‘Decrypt Storage’ before mount, to which I obviously know no password.

Your answer is encouraging for the following reason:
Anyway, without flashing anything ( & if the N7 really is unlocked) you should be able to soft-boot a recovery with the N7 in boot loader mode, e.g.
Try booting the 4.2.2 stock recovery that way, going in to its’ menu (Pwr+Vol-Up), and performing a factory reset.
Then, boot a custom recovery the same way and see if you can successfully mount both /cache and /data
I would expect the mount of data to fail if it is actually encrypted.
In the custom recovery, run the command «cat /proc/partitions»
you should see this (block counts might be different)
