Fallout 4
what were you trying to do with that file?
are you sure it isn’t spelling error?
it’s Fallout4Custom.ini
located inside Documents/my games/fallout4 directory.
you have to have these following lines to enable modding:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
Can you play the game at all? You do not need that file to play the game. Does your pc meet minimum requirements?
OP, I might be misunderstanding but, what do you mean «it won’t install»?
If you do not have your Fallout4Custom.ini in Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 where your saves folder, Fallout4.ini and your Fallout4Prefs.ini is, you can use Notepad to create it yourself.
Once it’s in the My Games/Fallout 4 folder, here’s everything that goes in it;
[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
It is case sensitive, so make sure you use Capital letters where they go and nexus mods will work.
NMM your fallout4custom.ini is not configured corrently
I placed Archive above the Display and it fixed the problem.
Are you sure that in your Fallout4.ini, under the [Archive] tab you have the following lines?
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
(if the last one has anything after «=» you can remove it, those old entries «strings/etc» are no longer needed)
Well, this is stupid, the message (which I’m also getting) AND the documentation both say to add the lines to Fallout4Custom.ini. not Fallout4.ini.
Since custom ini overwrites fallout4 ini would it matter if you had it in both? Also just a note, the link the error message gives you goes to a malware site.
Just a little disclaimer I recently started modding FO4, I don’t have the experience or common sense for problem solving that the community has developed over the years.
I attempted to launch fallout 4 with F4SE, steam prevented the launch to do some kind of update. My steam settings are set to only update on launch, I launch with F4SE Loader shortcut on desktop, but it wasn’t a version update guessing steam cloud or some type of sync. (sorry wasn’t paying attention)
The original launch window before game showed (helmet pic).
But when i attempted to reinstall a mod I got the «fallout4custom.ini not configured etc.» pop up. and just like in Angardia picture I had that fallout4custom.nmm_backup file (that I don’t recall being there before. Maybe it was.)
I tried to rearrange my fallout4.ini as others have with display beneath archive and it did not fix the problem.
For now Im going to try to get my custom display settings back, I would appreciate any help one could provide.
Well the Achieve above the Display worked, thx.
I love how none of the responses are for what was being asked. I am having the same issue though, been modding for years, FO4 for a long ass time too. I have deleted and reinstalled the game maybe 20+ time over the last few years and am well versed in what I’m doing. My INI’s are right, but the last two installs I’ve done for the game and re-initiating NMM with it have had this message popping up.
Again the INI’s are correct and as they should be. I’ve done this enough to know. But the message keeps showing up even though it’s all 110% functional in game.
Ive done everything in this thread, its still not working
Having same problem as everyone else, also for the sResourceDataDirsFinal = thing, do I have to change it within fallout4custom.ini or would I just do it under fallout4.ini cause I have seen both file types pop up and I am confused about it. Never even touched the ini files before either other than with Steam’s version of FO3 which I was told not to get since it doesn’t work on steam but it does with some other website though, but anyways, back to the topic at hand. for my sResourceDataDirsFinal= thing, does anyone else who hasn’t done anything with it see a «STRINGS/» with «sResourceDataDirsFinal= STRINGS/» at all and is it supposed to be there or is there not supposed to be anything after the = like with what the posts before have said? Also out of all of the ini files that I have checked I never saw the bInvalidateOlderFiles = 1 at all either. Also I think I saw this one comment from somewhere but the link that the message with the » fallout4custom.ini not configured and whatnot» appears, the person said that the link sends you to a website for Malware or something like that, and I am also wondering why they haven’t fixed that problem as well.
NMM Fallout4Custom.ini is not configured correctly
I have been getting an issue where when i try to install certain mods, a warning message pops up saying my Fallout4Custom.ini is not configured correctly. I have checked my Fallout4Custom.ini multiple times to check if the Archive section is correct.
Here is a link to the error popping up in NMM: https://imgur.com/a/r1fJik6
And here is a image of my Fallout4Custom.ini: https://imgur.com/a/4engrip
So I have done some tweaking, and now instead of a error message popping up, nothing pops up, however the mods resort back to being disabled when I close NMM and open it back up again.
After more tweaking, and troubleshooting, the textures such as hair/body textures don’t show up. My character doesn’t have hair, and there are purple boxes where the eyelashes would be.
I don’t know if it matters, but that entry is supposed to be on the bottom, not first in the list. Have you watched any of Gophers videos on setting up mods? It’s on Youtube. Search Gopher, NMM he has several. he also has several on Vortex. You will need to add the following lines to the Fallout4Prefs.ini file below the section marked [Launcher]:
You will need to add the following line in Fallout4Custom.ini:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
I have watched Gophers videos on setting up mods. I also saw on a forum post somewhere else that moving it to the top might have helped, and I already tried it with the entries being at the bottom, both have not worked.
NMM your fallout4custom.ini is not configured corrently
im getting this msg while trying to install mods.
i have the file, i see it fine. but i keep getting this notice.
after i click ok, the msg is gone and i install mods and they work as they should.
BUT this msg is annoying as hell.
any ideas what to do?
This used to be a nice neighborhood

u talk about this ini or Fallout4.ini?>

I was referring to your Fallout4.ini, not your Fallout4Custom.ini (although from the screenshot you’ve provided, everything is fine with the custom.ini, so unsure as to why exactly you’re getting this problem, seeing as the warning message directly mentions the custom.ini being incorrectly configured)
Barring that, I’m not sure what’s causing it.
My custom ini file looks like this:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
bAllowScreenShot=1
[Pipboy]
bPipboyDisablefx=1
[Display]
fPipboyScreenEmitIntensityPA=1.25
fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensityPA=0.15
[SaveGame]
iAutoSaveCount=10
Most likely those mod-specific entries below Display would not apply to you, but you might try to place the Archive entries above the Display entries and see if that helps.

I did a bunch of random stuff so I’m not sure exactly but placing Archive above Display seems to have fixed the issue I was having. Thanks
I placed Archive above the Display and it fixed the problem.
Problem with fallout4custom.ini
It keeps giving me this error when I install a mod after I just opened NMM.
«Your Fallout4Custom.ini is not configured correctly. Nexus Mod Manager was unable to make the necessary changes automatically. Please refer to the documentation located at https://wiki.tesnexu. Fallout_4_Mods»
I am not sure what that error is, but you do not need to edit your inis at all to get any mod to work unless those mods specifically ask you to do so on heir mod pages. Loose files work out of the box, as do mods that have archived files. For awhile you had to use ini tweaks to get loose files to work, and I think the mod manager just has outdated information.
If the mod manager allows you to continue on as normal after that warning, I think it’s safe to ignore it.
Can you post your Fallout4Custom.ini?
my custom.ini looks like this.
I have exactly the same issue. I have ignored it but some of the mods are not working so something is going wrong under the covers.
Same here. Any solutions yet?
I see this is an unresolved issue that I too am running into for some reason, it’s quite annoying honestly.
Try running the Nexus Mod Manager with Administrator rights and then install the mods, might work.
Is this with NMM 65.2? I had this as well as some other issues. I dumped that version and went back to 63.14 and all has been well.
i have this error too. it soo anoying
