However, the game appears to be impossible to play for some people as the official servers appear to be invisible. When people use the in-game server browser, the list is empty and the Steam server browser displays the “Unable to query server info for invite” message. We have gathered several working solutions for various causes of the error and we hope it would be helpful to users around the world.
What Causes Unable to Query Server Info for Invite When Playing Ark?
There are several major causes for the problem and it can occur either with a popular server you want to join but you receive the error beforehand. The other scenario is to have this error appear on your own server where everyone who tries to join the server receives this unfortunate error. Here are some causes:
Solution 1: Use a Helpful Command
“netsh winsock reset” is a helpful command that you can use in Command Prompt to reset winsock catalog back to default setting or its clean state. You can try this method if you are experiencing the “Unable to query server info for invite” when trying to launch ARK: Survival Evolved.
Solution 2: Auto-Connecting to the Server
This error can also appear to users who used to connect automatically to their favorite server by setting the launch options for the game. However, if the server they used has disappeared or if it has switched to a new IP address, you will need to either remove this launch option or to set it to the new server you want to connect to.
Solution 3: Forward Several Ports
This method is especially useful to people who are hosting their own ARK: Survival Evolved servers and they are unable to start it because of this error. It seems that the game uses several ports which definitely need to be forwarded in your Internet settings if you want users to be able to play on your servers.

Note: Before going for a reinstall of the game, try to verify the integrity of the game cache and check if that fixes the issue, if it doesn’t, go for the reinstall.
The instructions below are divided into two parts: instructions for users who purchased a physical copy of the game on a DVD to install the game and an alternative for Steam users so make sure you follow the instructions carefully.
Alternative for Steam Users:
In order to reinstall the game you purchased as a physical copy, you will need to insert the disk you bought it on and follow the instructions which will appear on screen in the installation wizard.
If you have purchased it on Steam, you will need to download it again from Steam by locating in the Library and choose the Install button after right-cling on it. Check to see if the “Unable to query server info for invite” error still appears when searching for official game servers.

I have a local machine hosting an Ark server. I can connect as well as two of my friends. The 3rd friend cannot see the server in in the in-game server list, but can add it to the Steam server browser and see that it’s active.
If he tries to connect through either the Steam server list or the steam://connect/ link, he is prompted for the password then gets the «Unable to query server info for invite.» error.
In the Steam browser, he added it to favorites and can see the info, players and the latency changes. When he clicks ‘connect’, it launches Ark, asks him for the password, then the error happens.
Server:
FX-8350, 16GB DDR3, GTX 750 Ti, Windows 7 [6.1]
My PC:
FX-8350, 16GB DDR3, GTX 1060, Windows 10 [1909]
Joe’s PC: (The friend that can’t connect)
Ryzen 3 1300X, GTX 1070, Windows 10 [1903]
Red’s PC:
Ryzen 7 2700X, GTX 1080 Ti, Windows 10 [1909]
The other friend that can connect (Rae) I believe has an i7 of some sort with 16gb of RAM, not too sure on her full setup. She’s on Windows 10 as well.
Red, Joe and myself all have the same ISP. Red and I are in the same city, while joe is two cities over (about 15 miles away). Not sure about Rae’s internet or her whereabouts. I’m using a Belkin router behind a Sagemcom router. All ports forwarded accordingly.
I find it completely odd that two others, and myself(locally) can connect with no issues, but Joe can’t. Can anyone shed any insight upon my situation?

Since you’re hosting the Server yourself and for only a small group of friends, did you ever thought about making the Server exclusivejoin only and in that step get rid of the password.
Exclusivejoin means only those who’s steamid is listed are allowed to connect to the server.
edit: besides the option to silently get rid of joe, ofc.

The point is, witch Gran iterated on further, that Joe his computer is the problem.
No one else has issues but Joe, yet there is limited information about his setup, or steps attempted to try and solve the problem on his end (and i know he made a post, just cant find it in my post history atm :P).

I just downloaded the server files and they’re version 306.88, my client is 306.83. Though, it seems the versions don’t always match. At the time of the original post, the versions were different as well. ( something like 306.87 server, 306.81 clients)

I was addressing havocide’s conjectures not your specific friends point since it was already mentioned about the use of avast. I was using av not AV to denote anti virus not specifically AVast :P.
However as vin pointed out there is a remote possibility avast is doing that but in my opinion if that were the case we’d hear this as an issue much more often. However best way to field test that is to remove avast completely from the comp and see what happens as well as disabling windows firewalls.
Additionally, has your friend, done file verifying from right clicking the game in the library? They should do this over and over back to back until 0 files are detected to be redone. The genesis update cause some file corruption for some and was only resolved by back to back multiple reverifying’s. This probably wont alleviate his issue but worth a shot.

It may not be the actual server. Are you using custom ports? Also, through no fault of your own, your IP address may be part of a blacklist from the AV company. Difficult to say without the AV being completely uninstalled.

His computer can connect locally, with or without a password and whether or not the whitelist is enabled. It can also connect when USB tethered to my cell phone. Both methods using the Steam server browser AND the steam://connect/ip:port method.
So this is where I’m at tonight. I’ve had Joe’s computer all day and cleaned it out (lol) as well as updated his graphics driver, flashed the BIOS and am currently doing Windows Updates.

The modem or ISP are what I’m pointing at, even though I know the ports aren’t blocked, since Conan Exiles also uses 7777-8 and 27015-27019, and we can still play that.
We’ve kinda given up and are going to rent a server. Thanks everyone for your input. If anything changes, I’ll update this post.

He can literally connect to any other server he tries. One of our friends has one through G-Portal, a friend of his has a BlueFang(I think. ) and he can connect to both of them as well.

Probably a wild goose chase but.
Is Conan Exiles hosted on the same computer that you are running ARK on?
Asking because i’m wondering if you are hosting ARK on a Linux server by chance? If the answer to that is yes, have you tried running a traceroute from his connection to yours? Its very unlikely but Linux uses a lower TTL then Windows. So if you are using the Linux version of the ARK server and his connection is being routed in some strange way, it may be beyond the TTL limit.
Linux uses 64 by default and Windows uses 128.
May also be possible that his ISP is looking for and blocking/filtering packets with a 64 TTL. Blizzard did this to mitigate denial of service attacks against their classic WoW servers. It broke Linux clients trying to connect until they changed the TTL to match Windows.

The Linux server is normally always working and updated. Many major hosts use it because they can avoid Windows licensing costs. The Linux client on the other hand is the one that is constantly broken. and still is. 🙂

Id did consider messing around with the lunix server just to expand my experience, but after reading all the complaints here each time about the client, the interest kind of dropped off 😛
Might change that around and make a VM for it soonish, just for the heck of it.
